Totall Recall - REVIEW

Film of the Day #48/ 300

Not only one of the best films of 1990, Total Recall is one of Arnold Schwarzeneggers’ finest cinematic accomplishments and one of the best action flicks to emerge out of Hollywood in the nineties. While it may seem dated today, the film showcases fine entertainment, complete with breathtaking action sequences and special effects that impress even in these computer-generated times. The fierce and unrelenting pace, accompanied by a tongue-in-cheek strain of humour in the roughhouse screenplay, keeps the film moving like a juggernaut. However, Total Recall is a worthy entry in the dystopian cycle launched by Blade Runner, this seems less derivative than most of its predecessors yet equally accomplished in its straight-ahead storytelling. A thought-provoking piece of science fiction cinema; Total Recall is a truly superb and yet disregarded gem.
