Cliffhanger - REVIEW

Film of the Day #108/ 300

Cliffhanger is big-budget nonsense that still manages to provide plenty of thrills thanks to its high-rise settings. Directed by Renny Harlin, Cliffhanger is a high altitude story of a Mountain rescue team pitted against a gang of hijackers, who crash land a U.S. Treasury jet in the treacherous Rocky Mountains. The movie features an avalanche of talent including Sylvester Stallone and John Lithgow and makes for nostalgic viewing.  Cliffhanger is essentially just another post Die Hard action adventure, however, it dispenses with the claustrophobic setting of many nineties action movies and embraces the breathtaking landscapes with a showcase of great scenes and stunts. I could be pretentious and tear the movie apart, but I think Renny Harlin delivered exactly what he set out to do – entertain and leave the audience wanting more.
