National Lampoon's Vacation - REVIEW

Film of the Day #114/ 300

The king of road comedies; Vacation is the first in a small series of National Lampoon movies. A timeless, original and hysterical comedy, Vacation follows the Griswold family and their cross country adventures. Chevy Chase gives the funniest performance of his career as Clark Griswold, a now classic character whose mishaps and hilarious choices trademark the Vacation series. Harold Ramis handles the film with finely tuned comic-skill and delivers classic eighties humour with its absurd plot situations and delightful comedic dialogue. Vacation is a satire on the banality of the traditional American summer ritual, and therefore thematically rich. If you can laugh at another’s mishaps, then this is definitely the movie for you. If you only take one Vacation in your life, this is the best one ever!
