Jaws 3D - REVIEW

Film of the Day #185/ 300

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water again... an ocean-themed Florida amusement park comes under attack from an angry Great White Shark! Jaws 3D is the third installment in the horror series and maintains only a loose relationship to the original Steven Spielberg hit. Critically condemned in 1983 for its use gimmicks such as three dimensional graphics, Jaws 3D was viewed as an over-hyped money maker. However, Jaws 3D is another guilty pleasure that you should enjoy watching. I don’t want to go all Mark Kermode, but I don’t hate this film, rather, detest an industry that refuses to learn from its past mistakes. Both fifties and eighties audiences rejected the publicity stunt of 3D, however, instead of moving on and developing stories of merit and artistry the film industry would rather continue to pursue a disfavored method of money making and attempt the win over audiences with persistence rather than perfection.
